Pier Sircello is the director of Center Stage Dance Studio. She teaches ballet, pilates, jazz, and modern dance and also assists with the Children's ballroom class. Pier has a degree from University of California at Irvine, and was a freelance ballet, modern and character dancer in California and Utah. Pier has over 15 years experience in pilates and has taken pilates teacher training courses for both mat and universal reformer. Pier has been teaching and choreographing in Hilo since 1994 and also has helped the Hawaii Concert Society to present internationally reknowned dance companies at UHH. Pier was also the rehearsal assistant for ODC/San Francisco when they brought their children's ballet, The Velveteen Rabbit to Hilo in 2002 and 2004. Most recently Pier has been doing artistic coaching and choreographing for circque performers, including a couple whose performance at DisneyWorld was filmed by ESPN.

Nadia Schlosser has always known that she wanted to be an entertainer.  She’s been studying ballet, tap, and jazz since the age of two.  Dancing, acting, and singing became essential creative outlets that allowed her imagination to soar.  She developed a true appreciation for the production and development of dance, theater, and film.  She attended Cal Arts as a Dance major, completed an Apprenticeship at the Performing Arts Center, and received her Level I Certificate in Entertainment Studies through UCLA Extension.  Some of her dance credits include: acceptance to the Milwaukee Ballet School, “The Jerry Lewis Telethon” Gap dancer, “All Wheel Sports”, “Mattel E-doption Kids”, “Ally McBeal”, “Jance Productions” Assistant Choreographer, “Choreographer’s Carnival”.  Some of her film credits include “Legally Blonde”, “How High”, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”, “The Downer Channel”, “Rowell”, “CSI”, and “Boston Public”.


Pam Chong James teaches ballet. Pam holds a degree in drama and theater with a concentration in dance from UH Manoa. She has danced professionally on Oahu with Honolulu city Ballet, Ballet Hawaii, Honolulu Dance Theatre, Hawaii Ballet Theatre as well as Hawaii Opera Theatre. She has choreographed many musicals throughout the state of Hawaii, and has taught ballet at Punahou Academy, Queen Emma Dance, and the Mid-Pacific Institute. She was the coordinator for the Big Island Dance Council's dance education project and currently teaches P.E. and health at Kamehameha Schools.

Vicky Kelly-Robbins
teaches Ballet, Modern and Pilates. Vicky earned her BA in Theatre Production from San Francisco State University. Her Masters degree is in Education. Much of her professional dance career was spent in Europe performing with the State Theatres in Germany at Freiburg and Kassel. She also performed 9 seasons with the Wagner Music Festival and in Italy, she danced with Teatro Danza Classico in Naples. Vicky has been teaching for over 15 years and is certified in Pilates Matwork.

BELLY BABES ~ BELLY DANCE TROUPE will be teaching Beginning Belly Dance. Instructors: Jewel Castro, Denise Cervine "Diviana", and Debra Johnson "Zoya Mirage", have diverse dance backgrounds encompassing Hula, Tahitian, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Ballet, Modern and Belly Dance. Collectively they have been studying Belly Dance for 17 years. They have enriched their education with such renowned Belly Dance teachers as: Erna Woo, Zaina Hart, Willow Chang, Wendy Buonaventura, Delilah, Saqra, Dondi & sister Titanya. A dance by women, for women of all ages, shapes, sizes and backgrounds. Belly Dance develops grace, muscle tone, control and flexibility. It also encourages self confidence, and creative expression. Kristen Kunzar teaches Ballroom for youths and adults and Latin Hour,for beginners thru advanced dancers who want to both learn or just have some practice time. Salsa will be the focus, but Kristen will play all different types of Latin music for people to practice to. Participants will learn one or two basic steps and then the music will start. Kristen will be there to help anyone who needs it throughout the evening. Unlike a traditional class everyone can have a chance to use the studio for practice or learning at a very low cost!
Amy Jackson teaches children's theater. Amy is a graduate from UH Hilo where she earned a Liberal Studies degree in Drama with an emphasis in performance & technical theatre as well as a certificate in the Performing Arts. She has been working with kids in our community for over 7 years including The Boys & Girls Club, YWCA, coaching soccer for AYSO and teaching children's theatre. Her theatre work also includes serving 2 years on the Hilo Community Players board, producing, directing and performing. Through her company Amy J Productions she has been working wardrobe and technical theatre on the Big Island for Kahilu Theatre, HCP, Volcano Arts Center and currently The Palace Theater. Elisha Starr teaches the Pilates Based Conditioning Class. Elisha found her quest with her physical health began in boot camp.

KAWIKA RAMLER teaches Yoga on Sundays at Center Stage Dance Studio from 9-10:30 a.m. Kawika will teach an introductory program for beginners in the Iyengar tradition of yoga practice. These sessions are suitable for all ages and physical abilities. The classes will be tailored to each individual to make the experience comfortable and slowly build strength and balance. Iyengar Yoga is based on the traditional Yoga poses originated over 3,000 years ago, and it is believed that it was first documented by the legendary figure known as Patangali. BKS Iyengar, now 84 years old, is regarded as the most influential Yoga figure in modern times. Living in Puna, India, he has made a life long commitment to teaching and perpetuating the art of Yoga. Many well known teachers in America have traveled to India to study with Guru BKS.Kawika, a resident of Hilo since 1971 has studied and taught Yoga for over 10 years. His studies have been with senior teachers certified by BKS Iyengar and they include:Felicity Green-Senior Instructor from San Juan Islands.Adill Palkivala-Senior Instructor from India and now in USA.Geeta Iyengar- Daughter of BKS.Jan Roberts-Certified teacher and Director at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel. 


B-boy Philosphy and B-boy Katastrophe teach B-boy and Krumping. B-boy is breakdancing which includes four elements, Toprock, a term referring to the upright dancing and shuffles that B-boys do when they enter a circle, Downrock or Footwork, refers to dancing performed on the floor, Freeze, refers to the poses that B-boys throw into their dance sets to add punctuation to certain beats and end their routines and Power moves, the acrobatic moves normally made up of circular motions where the dancer will spin either on the floor, or in the air. These guys'll sho ya how it's done!

 

Adrienne Poremba teaches West African, Guinea-Style Dance Basics. Dance has always been an important part of Adrienne's life. Living on the East Coast in New Jersey until the age of 20, ballet, tap, modern and jazz dance were a regular part of Adrienne's world. In 1981 Adrienne moved to Hawaii. Her involvement with West African Dance began on the island of Maui in 1989. She has taken many dance workshops with master dancers including Abdoulaye Camara, Youssef Koumbassa, Fara Tolno and Naby Bangoua, in addition to many other visiting artists over the years. She has also studied with Congolese dance teachers including Borrina Mapaka and Regine Dounda.

Adrienne believes the core essential high energy movements found in West African dance contain a special power. West African dance can move your spirit to a euphoric level, allowing you to release stress and feel the passion that resides in our bodies.

Nicki Conti teaches Beginning Flameno. This includes the study of armwork, handwork, footwork and palmas, combined with a study of the basic Flamenco rhythms.

Julie Alessio teaches Keiki Creative Movement. She believes that dancing together with your child while exploring movement activities and practicing skills is not only lots of fun but very educational as well. Meili Hau teaches Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga, a physically challenging and detoxifying yoga practice focused on conditioning, alignment, and mindfulness.Meili Hau is a certified Power Vinyasa Yoga Teacher with Bill Raup (Philadelphia, PA), registered with Yoga Alliance at the 200 hours level, and has taught and modeled for classes in both Philadelphia, PA and El Paso, TX. Meili is currently a registered nurse and family nurse practitioner in Hilo.
